Door Repair
One of our most common calls, garage door repair can be simple or complicated depending on the issue. Often garage door springs can give out over time causing the tension needed to pull the door up to give out. Attempting to lift an overhead door with broken springs can be a daunting task. The weight of these overhead doors is immense and could cause you to throw out your back. An overhead door is an intricate machine made up of a lot of moving parts and holding a lot of tension. The actual lifting of the overhead doors is done buy springs that hold the tension when the door is closed and release it when the door is opened. If just one of these springs breaks, the tension needed to lift the door off the ground is lost and you are stuck with one heavy task. The dangerous aspect of a spring breaking is mitigated by a large cable that runs through it. But even these cables can break and fray and that can be harmful and another more complicated way for your door to break.
There are many different kinds of cables that make possible the operation of overhead doors. Depending on the kind of springs you have, these cables need to be attached in a certain way. There are a few different types of spring systems in overhead doors, most notably torsion springs, and extension springs. Torsion spring cables will have a loop at one end where they connect to the spring, while extension spring cables will run along the side of your overhead doors. Both of these cables must be fashioned in a way as to be connected properly to their respective springs.

Understanding The Springs
Door Springs
Garage door springs can break for many reasons. If you pulling into your driveway at the end of the day to a door that won't open, chances are it's because of the springs. That’s never fun. This common issue is easily fixed by us here at Fresno Garage Guys. we’ve given garage door repair, and specifically to springs to hundreds of homes over the years. Here are some of the more common issues
Old Springs
Wear and tear can take its toll on your springs. Most garage door springs are rated to last for over 10,000 cycles (up and down movements). The average home can blow through 730 cycles a year on average so it's not hard to see why this is the number one reason we get called. With most homes being over 30 years old and still being outfitted with their original doors and springs, we suggest yearly maintenance to keep your springs working properly.
Buildup Of Rust
Wet or damp environments can cause rust to build op over time, and like anything else that's metal, rust can make quick work of springs that have lost their protective coating. Friction on the coil caused by the rust weakens the door spring's strength and, over time can cause your springs to break
Poor Maintenance
Believe it or not, like any other working and moving machine you own, your overhead doors need proper maintenance. If you want your door to last the test of time proper maintenance is your best bet. The first thing you want to be doing is spraying the coil down with lubricant about once for every season or (3 times a year). Also, check-in on your overhead door’s balance at the same time to make sure things are not falling out of alignment. But you don't have to worry about doing all of that yourself, we have all-inclusive yearly maintenance programs built into our service that you can take advantage of.
Incorrect Spring Installed
No need to be ashamed, we’ve seen it all before. Maybe you wanted to prove to the wife that your handy around the house, or thought that it would be an easy fix so you go to the local hardware store to pick up some garage door springs. How hard could it be right? Incorrectly used springs can not only break your door further it can be downright dangerous. Correctly installed torsion doors should have two springs, one on each side. Some garage door installation service providers will use one long spring running through the length of the whole door, which can work for smaller and lighter doors. But always be careful with this method on a standard door, they are too heavy and could snap the coil in a short time. For these standard doors, it is much preferred to use two coils and share the weight of the rising and falling door.

Garage Spring Replacement
The most common repair we do here at Fresno Garage Guys is by far spring replacement. Almost all garage door springs come in sets of two, so if one needs replacement there is a large chance that the other has almost reached the end of its life as well. When we come to service our customers' garage doors, we often will suggest that both springs be replaced at the same time. Not only does doing so save you money in the long run but by having your garage door springs changed at the same time, you know that they are always on the same life cycle. Replacing only one spring at a time is usually the beginning of a long and expensive game of catchup with springs needing replacements at different times of the year. Most residential overhead door springs have a life cycle of about 10,000 revolutions (that’s opens and closes). If you have been wondering if it's time for your spring to get replaced give us a call.
Automatic Openers
When you are in the market and looking for a new garage remote, you want something powerful and durable. But it is not always obvious that you may also want something quiet. If you are one of the millions of Americans that work nights, you may not want to wake the whole house up when you arrive home in the late hours of the night. That's why when we work with automatic garage door manufactures we always go into the details and work with only the very best names in the industry. We won't settle for garage doors that hardly meet modern standards and we don't think that you should either. That's why we cut out all the noise and give you a clear choice of the automated garage system that’s right for you. The next time you need a new overhead door opener or keypad, contact us and we would be happy to give you our professional and educated guidance and help with shipping and installation.
